Taylor Finke

2007 Silver Sonata Award Winner

Hi, I am Taylor Finke, I'm 16 years old and I live in Langley, B.C. I started riding young but not seriously until I was 12. I began riding with my uncle occasionally for fun and then with Melanie Walters doing hunters after volunteering at her barn for a school project. Due to me not having a horse, I switched to dressage with Monique Fraser at Rosewyn Stables. I've been there for three years now as a working student and I'm falling more and more in love with the sport everyday. I've never owned my own horse because it's too expensive for us, but I have the next best thing. In July 2007 I was given the opportunity to train Glastonbury, a 4 year old 17hh Shire/TB, because of his owners illness. He has come from being green broke to showing training level and schooling first and second at home. We've competed at Canada Cup, Rising Stars, and Autumn Classic in summer and fall of 2007 at training level and got scores of 66%. At Autumn classic, we won team bronze with top dressage scores. Our barn also put together a music Quadrille freestyle, which he was included in. Here are photos of Glaston At Canada Cup:

Though I mainly work on dressage, I'm also a huge jumping and cross country fan, which has lead me also to eventing. A great thank-you to Paula Farr who has allowed me to use her horse, Galeano, in both dressage and eventing competitions. In June, we won 5th place in our first event of the year, his first event ever. I also competed at local Campbell Valley shows, Rising stars, and MREC. At Rising Stars we had our best dressage score of 72%, leaving us Reserve Champion and Overall Hi-point Champion. This is a photo of Galeano at our first event:

At BCYR year end awards, I was awarded the Silver Sonata award for outstanding BC Young Rider. Another huge thank you to Monique Fraser, who nominated me for this award, and has also been my coach, my inspiration, and a good friend.

In 2008, I plan on riding Glastonbury in first level competitions. I plan on also trying out for the BC summer games.

Good Luck to everyone involved in BCYR.
