Hi there! My name is Claire Austring and I’m the Rider Representative on the BCYR Executive committee again for 2008. The rider rep acts as a voice for the members, so if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about horsey or Young Rider related issues, please contact me. I’ll try to help if I can, or at least send you in the right direction. Up front I’d like to say thank you, on behalf of all us riders, to the group of moms and supporters who work so hard to keep BCYR going and organize the riding and learning opportunities at our meetings and clinics. They do a lot of work for our benefit - thanks to them all! Be sure to attend all the YR meetings you can - there’s always something to learn, and you’ll get to know the other members of our group and make some great friends in “dressage world”. It’s nice to know each other and be able to support each other’s riding out at the shows. On the personal side, I’m turning 22 this year so, while we can still belong to BCYR until the age of 25, last year was my final year of competition at the Young Rider level. My horse, Legacy, and I managed to achieve our goal last year to compete at the Canadian National Youth Championships and we were very excited and proud to come home with the championship. There were several of us there from BC and I think we all did the BCYR group proud with our results! It was a fantastic experience after a lot of hard work. Two BCYR members also travelled to Virginia to compete at the North American Junior/Young Rider Championships and achieved outstanding results there. I encourage everyone to set their goals high, and work hard to achieve them. And, remember to have fun along the way! Legacy is now enjoying semi-retirement - my mom is riding him and taking lessons, and I ride him a couple of times a week. He’s a very happy boy! I’ll look forward to seeing everyone at the YR meetings and clinics, and of course the dressage shows, this year. Even though I’m not planning on showing, you’ll still see me out there cheering everyone on. Good luck in your training and riding in 2008!! C U @ X ;) Claire
