Jennifer WoodJennifer Wood and Tia Maria.
Hi, my name is Jen Wood and I am 17 years old. I live on the Island at Nanoose Bay. My Mom and Dad bought me my first pony when I was 5 and I named him Midnight(he was black of course). I joined Pony Club here on the island, when I was 11, and enjoyed experiencing all three disciplines, which consisted of jumping, cross-country, and dressage. As I grew up out of my pony and more into the eventing, my parents and I decided I needed more of a challenge and a bigger horse. I then got a great big 17 hand thoroughbred named Dexter. As the months went by I took lessons from Libby Naylor on how to ride Dexter; as he was much different from a small pony. Libby Naylor taught me the importance of having the solid basics of flat/dressage in any horse. As the winter passed my knowledge and soon to be “love” for dressage grew. My coach offered me the opportunity to ride her Grand Prix horse “Checkmate”. Libby let me try many different high level movments that day, and when I did piaffe, I felt my true passion was for dressage. From that day on I started looking for my DRESSAGE horse. In a very lucky month later I found my Tia Maria. She is a 16’2 hand, 13 years old Iberian Warmblood (Andalusian/Thoroughbred) who loves to please. Tia and I have been a partnership and working with Libby Naylor for 2 years now and are showing at Jr. Young Riders. We hope to be at Young Riders Prix St. George in the near future.
